EN ISO 11612
Clothing with the ISO 11612 standard replaces EN 531 and protects
against heat and flame. With the clothing standard ISO 11612, the wearer
is protected against brief contact with flames, splashes of molten
metal and radiant and convective heat. Within this standard, it looks at
the flame retardancy of the fabric and heat transfer to the skin. Among
other things, the tests measure the likelihood of second-degree burns.
EN ISO 11612 for the wearer
EN ISO 11612 guarantees that a garment that will not burn through
when in contact with a flame. However, it is important that the clothing
is clean and wearer move away from the flame as soon as possible.
Otherwise, the cloth may still burn out. ISO 11612 offers the wearer
escape time. Walking away from the risk will extinguish the flame on the
clothing. The thickness of the cloth will protect the wearer from
second-degree burns.
Comply with EN ISO 11612
The cloth should not catch fire and should prevent heat transfer to the skin as much as possible
Clothing must cover the entire body at all times
Clothing should prevent sparks from falling into clothing as much as possible
Bags must be covered
Creases or raised edges should be avoided
Zippers are not recommended because they make it more difficult to remove the garment in an emergency situation
Metal closures should not be directly on the skin
ISO 11612 and maintenance
Clothing with the ISO 11612 standard requires professional
maintenance to maintain its flame retardant properties. The flame
protection decreases when the clothing is dirty. It is therefore
important that wearers always have sufficient clean clothing with the
ISO 11612 standard on hand and can change if necessary.
Berendsen cleans clothing regularly. After each cleaning, the quality
of the clothing is checked and, if necessary, repaired. Repairs are
done with flame retardant material and according to safety guidelines.
Your clothing therefore always complies with the latest standards.
Important
Provide adequate clothing so that employees can always change if needed
The entire body must be protected. So consider shoes, gloves and face protection as well.
For intense and high-risk welding and grinding, w e also recommend
using welding aprons. Both for the safety of the wearer and to extend
the life of the clothing.
